On August 2, 1907, I encountered the most threatning sight I ever saw on the ballfield. The thing just hissed with danger. We couldn't touch him....every one of us knew we'd met the most powerful arm ever turned loose in a ball park.

He's as good a young player as anyone I've ever seen come into the big leagues. He's tremendous. One of the very best young hitters I ever saw. He's a smart kid and he knows all about hitting. He went to Georgia Tech where he was on the Dean's List, and when I finished talking to him I felt I was on the Dean's List of hitting because he knows plenty, he really does. I asked him my usual questions about all aspects of hitting. I like to get young hitters stirred up to find out what they really know. And he knew everything! He's really a brilliant kid.
